This introduction to the small lathe course is run over two days with a maximum of five students. Whether you’ve never used a metal working lathe before or have not touched one since you were at school, our experienced tutor will have you confidently cutting metal in no time.

What you will learn

Aimed at the complete beginner, this course will take you through the setup and safe use of the lathe. Over the two days you will complete a project that incorporates a variety of techniques. From how to correctly plan a project and how to turn with precision to turning between centres and screw cutting. By the end of the two days you will have the confidence to safely use the lathe at home.

Additional information

You will start your day with a welcome talk, including a hot drink, health and safety brief and a breakdown of the machines you will be using.

No metal working experience is needed.

The minimum age is 14 years old and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the course and must not be left unattended during class hours. If you would like to read our terms and conditions click here.
