Building the world of your poem
In this fun, interactive workshop, Spoken Word performer Stewart
Taylor and Theatre Maker Anna Carr invite you to explore the
theatrical possibilities of your work, be it a poem or character based
monologue.
Through Drama strategies and focused writing exercises, participants
will be supported in creating an individual performance of their work.
This could be treated as an end in itself or as a stepping stone to
developing a full length piece.
You will need to bring a short poem or monologue, maximum two minutes
in length. It may be autobiographical thought does not have to be, as
long as the speaker is recounting a significant personal experience.
This workshop complements a performance of SPILLAGE AT THE BRIDPORT
LYRIC THEATRE ON THE 25TH FEBRUARY, a play which itself grew from a
single monologue style poem. It is written and performed by Stewart
Taylor and directed by Anna Carr.
A former UK Anti-Slam Champion and Hammer and Tongue National Slam
Final competitor, Stewart has several years’ experience as an actor
and drama teacher. Anna Carr is a Southampton based theatre maker and
graduate of East 15 Acting School. Her recent work includes an
interactive exhibition of verbatim poems presented at Southampton Art
Gallery and The South Bank Centre as part of British Art Show 8.
