Dan Gillespie Sells and Tom MacRae’s musical is based on the 2011
BBC Three documentary ‘Jamie: Drag Queen at 16’. It brings catchy
original songs and an uplifting tale, promising to be a sensation for
contemporary theatre-goers. Since opening in 2017, the musical has
several awards under its belt and five Olivier Award-nominations.
Tickets are selling fast to Everybody’s Taking About Jamie, thanks
to its stunning dramatisation of Jamie’s true life story. As a
typical sixteen year old growing up on a council estate, Jamie New
doesn’t quite fit in anywhere. Despite bullying, Jamie has big
aspirations and an even bigger secret to share. With the support of
his family and friends, Jamie overcomes strong adversary and chases
after his dream. The show exposes his challenges, relationships and
above all his inner strength. The true tale of overcoming prejudice
and outright fabulousness is inspirational, so Jamie had to share it.
After making the documentary with Firecracker Films, theatre director
Jonathan Butterell wanted to transform the narrative into a stage
show. Partnering with The Feeling’s Tom MacRae, the pair began
working on this remarkable and heartwarming musical. Everybody’s
Talking About Jamie premiered at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield,
where it won two UK Theatre Awards. Following the rave reviews, the
musical now runs in London’s West End, where it scooped four
WhatsOnStage awards. Some compare the show to Evan Hansen; a
groundbreaking musical making an impact in the current theatre scene.
Above all, the two shows are impacting, significant and touching. They
are both enlightening and educational, and combine drama and humour
for truly joyous coming-of-age shows. Tickets are available for
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie now. Don’t miss out on seeing the
musical set to take the theatre world by storm.
