BAND
WITH SUPPORT BY PAUL GILCHRIST'S BARE WIRES
_"I HAVE ALWAYS REALLY ENJOYED PLAYING IN THE CARLISLE AREA. We share
a love of music and a good time. I've performed here many times over
the years, and the region has given me some of the best memories of my
career, among them playing with the late, great Jack Bruce and Dick
Heckstall-Smith."

In 2017 Manchester native NORMAN BEAKER became only one of eight
21st-century BRITISH ARTISTS TO BE OFFICIALLY RECOGNISED AND INDUCTED
IN THE AMERICAN HERITAGE SOCIETY'S BLUES HALL OF FAME®, alongside
JACK BRUCE, PETER GREEN, JOHN MAYALL, JEFF BECK, KEITH RICHARDS, MICK
JAGGER AND ERIC CLAPTON.
The North's very own LEGEND IS ONE OF THOSE VERY FIRST ARTISTS WHO IN
THE '60'S CONTRIBUTED TO CREATING THE UNIQUE BRITISH BLUES, R&B and
ROCK sound that captivated the world. NORMAN BEAKER's rare talent had
him honing his skills by accompanying the finest musicians from both
sides of the Atlantic, including CHUCK BERRY, B.B. KING, ALEXIS
KORNER, JACK BRUCE, PETER GREEN, VAN MORRISON, AND RUBY TURNER.
NORMAN has kept the ageless sound of CLASSIC BRITISH BLUES alive
throughout his distinguished career. Staying true to those genuine
innovative roots despite changing trends have only served to keep him
cutting-edge and contemporary. In 2015 he released a hit that took UK
and CONTINENTAL charts by storm,
"Only I Got What The Other Guys Want".

"The NORMAN BEAKER BAND IS THE BEST RHYTHM &
Blues band in the UK."_--Jack Bruce
No stranger to CARLISLE and CUMBRIA, THE NORMAN BEAKER BAND became
well-known in the area through the years, playing iconic venues such
as FRONT PAGE AND TITHE BARN, often with such colleagues as JACK BRUCE
and DICK-HECKSTALL-SMITH. A performance at the TITHE BARN saw JACK
BRUCE playing one of the finest bass solos of his career.
Proud of his Northern roots and honoured to be playing the prestigious
OLD FIRE STATION in the city which held so many memories, NORMAN paid
heartfelt tribute to his greatest mentor and friend in his celebrated
debut at OFS in June 2018.
Though known primarily as a BLUESMAN, NORMAN seamlessly moves among
the genres of BLUES, R&B, JAZZ, ROCK and POP with the ease and grace
that characterise his performances and original songs.
THE BEAKER BAND'S unique combination of talent, uncompromising
reliability, professionalism, friendliness and humour have made them
one of the best-loved acts in the UK and EUROPE. They treat every show
as the performance of their lives, whether at a small venue to the
ROYAL ALBERT HALL.
There weren't many of these gifted first and finest who defined the
BRITISH BLUES genre...and now sadly there are fewer still.
Of these rare national treasures who still remain, none serve the
music more faithfully than NORMAN BEAKER, whose guitar, voice, and
original songs are as fresh and powerful as when he began in the
Northern clubs of the '60's...and continue as ageless, resilient and
enduring as his home city itself.
Special Guests: Paul Gilchrist's Bare Wires Band
The Beaker Band won't be the only great Northern musicians ushering in
the summer. NORMAN'S esteemed MANCHESTER colleague and PENRITH
resident PAUL GILCHRIST, who's earned a worthy place in Northern
musical heritage will once again be performing with his cutting-edge
band BARE WIRES, long celebrated on the venue and festival circuit.
NORMAN'S influence led to PAUL and BARE WIRES performing with NORMAN'S
colleagues ROBERT CRAY, CHRIS FARLOWE, RONNIE EARLE, and PAUL'S own
mentor NORMAN himself, who penned many of the band's songs. Building
on this experience, PAUL AND BARE WIRES became sought after as rhythm
section for visiting American musicians WALTER TROUT, PHIL GUY, LOWELL
FULSON and others.
No true lover of CLASSIC BRITISH BLUES will want to miss an
unforgettable evening with one of the genre's finest!

THE OLD FIRE STATION
OLD FIRE STATION has a remarkable history of its own. CARLISLE'S FIRE
STATION was based at SPRING GARDENS LANE. The building was demolished
in the early '60s and the STATION moved to WARWICK STREET. The
building fell victim to the floods which ravaged CUMBRIA in 2015.
Thanks to the efforts of many, including dynamic arts director,
STEPHEN DUNN (known as "Mr CARLISLE"), and GAVIN CAPSTICK, contract
and community services manager for the city council, the venue opened
its doors again nine months after the flood and has since hosted many
domestic and international musicians, artists and comedians each
month.
