Test sequence
ACTIVITY GUIDELINES
The learner must:
Complete all pre-start and running checks before any activity takes place
The shutdown procedures must only be completed by the learner at the end of the test
All additional test requirements can be completed over the period of the test duration
Operator safety and observations
Seat belt must be worn if stated in the employer’s risk assessment/method statement
The dozer must be serviceable, meets the current legislation and fitted with a standard
bucket change to blade
Travelling to the work area
The learner must:
Travel up and down a gradient
Travel over varying terrain
Reverse the dozer in a straight line (min 50m) and through a restriction
Setting up to • excavating
Prepare and set up the dozer for excavating duties
Slot dozer a straight trench and form a stockpile at the end
Excavating tasks •
• Set blade (if applicable) and push 1 x blade width material from a stockpile and spread
Backfill and work • area •
Shutdown • procedures
Backfill the slot trench and compact area Clean and level work area
Dozer parked in a safe position with the engine and isolator key removed and handed to the instructor
Additional notes
The slope must be of sufficient incline with manoeuvring room on the top to enable the
learner to demonstrate the correct procedures for travelling up and down a gradient as per manufacturers recommendations
Specifications
There must be a sufficient quantity of suitable material
The ground to be excavated must be suitable and sufficient for the test
The slot trench excavated must be a minimum depth of 1m deep
The slot trench excavated must be a minimum 20m in length
The material must be evenly spread over an appropriate area
The ramp incline must not exceed the max safe working angle specified in the
manufacturer’s handbook
Test timings
The full test must be completed within 2hrs 45min
