Friday 31st May – a walking tour of Bankside and Shakespeare’s London

Bankside, south of the river Thames, is one of the oldest parts of London, settled by the Romans and part of London's first suburb (Southwark).  Explore the traces of the area's Roman, medieval and industrial past and the bustling foodie and entertainment district it is today.

Bankside's most famous resident was William Shakespeare, who lived and worked here in the late 16th and early 17th centuries when the area was London's theatre and entertainment district.  Discover how the theatres developed, what going to the theatre in Shakespeare’s time was like and explore the places Shakespeare would have known.

Meet: at 17:45 for a 6pm start, at the southern end of London Bridge, next to the statue of a silver dragon on a plinth (in front of 1 London Bridge, London, SE1 9AJ)

End: approx. 20:00 near the Tate Modern

Post-tour drinks: at the Mad Hatter on Stamford Street (5 mins walk from the end of the tour)

Numbers are limited to 25 people.  Registered members can invite one guest.

£12 for members

£12.50 for Guests
