I did the half marathon at Heaton park and for my 1st attempt at a half marathon was not the best idea doing it here. The run up was fine, I got my bib in good time. There were clear instructions on the email and the price was good. However I was not prepared for the inclines this run has. I did some incline training however nothing prepared me for these inclines. There is one killer incline, and you get to do it 4 times! Unfortunately it rained too. By the time I walked from the car park to the event area, my feet were wet. I did bring some spare socks, however decided not to change straight away and do it at some point. Due the rain, there were huge puddles. If you have little legs like I do, you have no option to run through it, and not over it. This puddle was there to meet you every 4 laps which just added more pain to get through. Apart from the above, the race was well organised and staffed. There was plenty of water being held out and volunteers to cheer you on and shake their tamparine. If this is your first half marathon, I would avoid and go for a flat run like Manchester half or the one in September. However if you fancy a really tough one, go for this.
