ANNA HICKEY – MD – MAXUS UK
Anna was appointed MD at WPP media agency Maxus UK in June 2015. In
just one year, she has completely reinvigorated the agency’s people
strategy and is spearheading a major equality and diversity drive.
Last December, Anna introduced an agile working policy, driving
productivity whilst reducing employee turnover by 5% YTD to smash the
industry average.
She has launched ‘Never Stand Still’ – a work/life balance
programme with a focus on wellbeing and personal growth within and
beyond the workplace. Absenteeism due to sickness has since dropped,
whilst morale and retention have soared – and Maxus has celebrated
its first inclusion in The Sunday Times best 100 companies to work for
ranking.
Anna has also delivered on her commitment to implement truly flexible
working for parents with a market-leading parent policy. Maxus’
Parent Commitment includes equal enhanced parental leave policy for
mums and dads, paid childcare emergency days and a parent buddy
system: practical solutions that actively support and encourage
parents.
Delivering on a statement of intent to #NeverStandStill herself, Anna
is now implementing a diversity strategy inspired by Maxus’
achievements in the field of gender equality. She has already created
Maxus Calling – a school liaison and apprenticeship scheme to
broaden access to the advertising industry – and she is calling on
the entire agency to input to a comprehensive Diversity Manifesto.
She is also launched a Diversity Week this September with a packed
programme of talks and activities to make potentially sensitive issues
such as LGBT, ethnic and disability representation real, tangible and
accessible.
And in April 2017, she will be speaking at the Diversity in Marketing
& Advertising Summit, of which she is on the advisory board.
Anna had spent three years previously within GroupM at MEC, where she
set up and ran the Northern European arm of PRIMUS, a sub-agency
dedicated to the Johnson and Johnson portfolio.
She has worked in the Media industry for nearly 20 years, with 14 of
those spent at Carat. There she worked with businesses including
Diageo, Cadbury, Disney and Adidas, and won a number of media awards
including a Cannes Lion. She lives in Hertfordshire with her family.
