A clay SHOOT IN SUPPORT OF THE COUNTRYSIDE ALLIANCE AND THE NELSON
TRUST IS BEING HELD AT BURDEN COURT FARM, GLOS GL12 7RW
History of the Rib Eye SHOOT:
Founders: Mike Mitchell and Ross Campbell Hill
The Rib-Eye SHOOT BEGAN IN 1999 AS A FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE FOR THE
GLOUCESTERSHIRE BRANCH OF THE COUNTRYSIDE ALLIANCE. Devised by GLOS CA
branch members Mike Mitchell and Ross Campbell Hill, both local
farmers and keen shots, as a fun clay pigeon SHOOT FOLLOWED BY AN
EXCELLENT STEAK LUNCH. The first SHOOT WAS HELD AT CHAVENAGE ON A VERY
WET AND WINDY DAY IN APRIL 1999 AND HAS BEEN HOSTED IN TURN BY JOE
BULLMAN AT AVENING AND JANE ROOK AT BEVERSTON. In 2003, the RIb Eye
SHOOT MOVED TO TRULL FARM AS GUESTS OF MIKE MITCHELL, where it
continued as a highlight of the sporting caledar until September 2014.
Not only did Mike chair the Committee, but he was the linchpin to the
event's success . Mike organised everything from signage to clays,
catering to sponsors.
He did this with his usual cool aplomb, ensuring that all enjoyed the
day and the C.A. and the charity of the day earned significant
contributions.
Not many people know that Mike was the Chairman of the Gloucestershire
branch of the Countryside Alliance for 14 years and he lead from the
front. Fund raising not only through the Rib Eye SHOOT BUT ALSO THE
CHELTENHAM COUNTRYSIDE DAY.
As host to the event for 15 years, the Committee owe Mike and the
Mitchell family a huge debt of gratitude.
In 2017, the RIBEYE SHOOT MOVED TO HAZLE MANOR, where it was
generously hosted by the Barrington family for two years. In 2019, it
transfers to Tresham at the kind invitation of Tom Hatherell.
