Starting out as a ‘pop cantata’ at a London school in 1968, Joseph
and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’s first release was as an
album. It later transformed into a musical, premiering at the
Edinburgh International Festival in 1972. After hitting Broadway in
1982 and the West End in 1983, the show quickly became a global
sensation. The Bible-themed musical weaves the story of Joseph and his
11 brothers. Joseph’s father Jacob gives him a multicoloured coat,
symbolising his love for his son. But this only inspires the jealous
of his brothers, who consequently plot to sell Joseph into slavery and
tell their father he’s dead. After being a slave in Egypt and later
in jail, Joseph reveals his ability to interpret dreams and
prophesise. He becomes the right hand man to the Pharaoh, setting the
scene for when his brothers come begging for food. Across the globe,
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat attracts many huge names.
Gary Bond, Jason Donovan, Phillip Schofield, Donny Osmond and Joe
McElderry (The X Factor) have all played a role. Wherever the musical
performs, songs such as ‘Any Dream Will Do’ and ‘Close Every
Door to Me’ draws in the crowds. Due to overwhelming ticket demands
for the show, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has been
revived many times. Don’t miss out on this heartwarming musical
