The Shilling House garden will be opening for the National Garden Scheme on Sunday 16th June from 3pm – 6pm. Pre-booking is essential with tickets priced at £8.00. Children are free, but must be accompanied by an adult. Light refreshments will be available.
The house built in 1925 is a unique local heritage site, with funds raised on its sale donated to a relief fund for families of the Montagu Pit disaster. Travellers paid a shilling in a prize draw to win the house! The garden is a three tiered structure of form, and grace with primly clipped and shaped hedges, topiary and pergolas. Seasonal colours are framed by the predominantly green backdrop, which all lead down to the formal pond on the bottom level.
Please be aware that there is no wheelchair access. There is parking on West Road (when no restrictions in force) or in Grange Road.
