OXFORD
OX2 0LT
Registration is from 10.00 am
Singing 10.30 am - 4.00 pm.
Come and join us, either to sing, from the Denson 1991 Sacred Harp, or
just listen! Loaners available.
Bring and Share Lunch – cold food only please, prepared and ready to
serve. Or BYO food. Local shops just round the corner under the A34
bridge.
Donations to cover costs - cash only please !!
In the interest of the safety of our singing community, some of whom
are immune compromised, PLEASE TEST FOR COVID ON THE MORNING BEFORE
THE SINGING, THANK YOU. Anyone attending the singing who develops
Covid in the following week should please advise the organisers.
Early evening social afterwards: venue to be confirmed.
Lifts from Oxford Bus and Railway Stations can be arranged; please
contact us beforehand by Friday 20th pm – tel: 01865 865773. Oxford
is served by two main-line services from both Paddington (GWR) and
Marylebone (Chiltern Line).
However, because the Botley Road at Oxford Station has been closed
since March 2023 and won’t reopen until August 2026, we can’t
pick-up from under the Oxford Ox statue opposite main door of the
station. Please use the pedestrian footpath under the railway bridge
to the Botley Road and make your way past the allotments (on your
right) to the car park entrance of the West Oxford Community Centre,
opposite St. Frideswide's Church. We can pick-up from there instead.
Travel by COACH ('Oxford Tube' from Victoria or Marble Arch) is
considerably cheaper than by train, but the pick-up point will be the
same as by train.
There are several bus services along the Botley Road, starting from
the 'temporary' stop outside St Frideswide Church, Osney Island, the
E1, S6, S9, 400 and 4A. Minns Industrial Estate is the nearest stop to
the singing venue, just past Aldi and before MacDonalds. Minns is at
the junction of Botley Road and North Hinksey Lane, which is what you
need to find the WI Hall.
If you take the S6, please make sure you get off at Minns, or you will
be on your way to Swindon.
If the weather is fine, walking to the venue is another alternative,
which is a mile from the railway station. If WALKING from the Bus
Station, turn Right on the road outside the Bus Station, go over the
cross-roads, and continue walking in a straight line towards the
Railway Station. You will arrive in Frideswide Square just before you
reach the Railway Station. Walk under the railway bridge and continue
as before.
IF COMING BY CAR
(including access from Bristol/Swindon A420), don't attempt to go
through the City! Leave the A34 at the Botley Interchange, and turn
down the hill towards Oxford. You will be confronted by MacDonalds. It
is easier to turn RIGHT at these traffic lights, followed by an
IMMEDIATE LEFT, keeping MacDonalds on your left. Travel 300 yards
southwards, and join North Hinksey Lane at a small cross-roads.
Continue south (ie straight on), the Hall is on the left after House
No 34. Parking is behind the Hall.
