Monday Garden Work Party and lunch

Meetup gardeners are welcome to join our work parties held by Nottingham Organic Gardeners on our well established organic allotment site at Whitemoor Allotments. The garden work parties are every other Saturday and every other Monday.

What do we do?

We meet on the plot for a start time of 10am, tours of the garden are given to new visitors and hot and cold drinks available. 

Gardening tasks are given out, those who are new to gardening will often be paired with a partner to help them along so don't be put off if you haven't done anything like this before.

Jobs for this year include - cultivating the orchard area, sowing wild flower areas, expanding the exotic border, building a natural climbing frame for edible climbers like beans and squash and helping with our new projects for 2015.

After a morning of gardening activities we stop for lunch at 1pm. It's all cooked from produce grown on our site and normally consists of a veggie soup, steamed greens and some potatoes along with chutneys and pickles prepare by our members. Then we have a leisurely tidy after lunch, finish off any jobs and that's it!

Who goes to these work parties?

We have a regular group of around 10 members that go down to the garden on the work parties but don't necessarily RSVP to the meetup page. They are interested in organic gardening and permaculture, good food and spending time outside.

Other information

Access is by the main gate from Wilkinson Street. The gates are always open on a Saturday morning 10-12.30. Please note the main gates on the allotment are locked on a Monday but there will be other Nottingham Organic Gardeners on the allotment to let you in. There is a note posted on the gate with a mobile phone number of Ros (our allotment officer) who will let you in if the gate is locked.

These sessions are FREE to members and include a lunch cooked on site from our produce. All that we ask is that you come and give us a hand doing some gardening or just come in for a chat and a hot drink! You can call in for 5 minutes or stay for the duration.
