Fellow music lovers of Oxford, we're bringing something poetic to our
beautiful town this autumn. A magical evening of Indian classical
ragas on flute will take place at the Holywell Music Room on 13th
November. Come experience Oxford Raga Unison: Duet of Winds and Drums,
a transcendent evening of Hindustani classical music featuring Pandit
Ajay Prasanna, a three-time Grammy nominee and internationally
celebrated bansuri virtuoso known for his innovative cross-genre Flute
Symphony, with Kousic Sen, one of the foremost tabla players of his
generation. Born into a musical family in Calcutta and trained by
great masters of the Banaras Gharana, Kousic is admired worldwide for
his powerful yet sensitive tabla playing. His energetic performances
bring a new life to the stage, whether in classical concerts, dance
accompaniment, or cross-cultural collaborations. As an Artist in
Residence with Milapfest in Liverpool, and through tours across the
USA, Canada, Europe, and Asia, he has shared his rhythmic mastery with
audiences in many of the world’s most famous venues. Together,
Ajay’s meditative flute playing and Kousic’s vibrant tabla
dialogue will create soundscapes that are deeply restorative, echoing
the timeless belief in the power of music for mindfulness, emotional
balance, and mental health. This isn’t just a concert; it’s a
chance for our community to experience something rare in our city, as
centuries-old traditions of South Asian music meet us here in Oxford.
Research indicates that such healing music can soothe the mind,
alleviate stress, and promote a sense of well-being. Bring friends,
make an evening of it, and add another memorable night to our city’s
rich cultural life. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and music begins at 7:00
p.m. Audience Policy: Unauthorised filming or photography is not
permitted. The use of mobile phones (including texting and silent
mode) is not allowed during the event. We kindly ask for your
cooperation. Thank you! See you there, Oxford!
