Our Museums Month continues with this fascinating talk. Halton-born chemist and historian, Dr Diana Leitch MBE, Chair of Trustees at Catalyst, will describe the early life of Sir John Brunner, his family life in Widnes when he worked with Gossages soap works in the 1860s in the building which is now the Catalyst Science Discovery Centre, his funding and opening of the Runcorn-Widnes Transporter Bridge in 1905, the establishment of the great chemical firm of Brunner Mond at Northwich and his many philanthropic legacies which include buildings in Runcorn and other parts of Cheshire. Audience members will also be able to handle a collection of fascinating objects from the Catalyst Museum.
