HELLO I'M MARIE-LOUISE MAXEY AND I'M A PRINTMAKING AND ART TUTOR.  ON THE COURSE WE WILL USE NON-TOXIC WATER BASED INKS, SOFT CUT LINO AND YOU WILL LEARN THE BASICS OF HOW TO HAND PRINT YOUR OWN DESIGN.   This course is a fun relaxed class to create a linocut design of A6 size (10 x 15 cm) on A5 size paper and or blank greetings cards.   Also you may wish to buy to print your design on a Kraft A5 sketchbook/notebook 140gsm paper which can be purchased on the day for £1.25.  You will take home all your printed products and your Lino template.  It's a wonderful feeling to create! The class will be for a maximum of 7 participants so that it is both nice and cosy and also enough time to get any one to one help that's needed. FIRST CLASS - MAY 9.  10-12 MIDDAY We will look at some linocut artists over a cup of tea and discuss varied design approaches and get a sense of  where you want to go creatively and how to do it.  Once you have your own design that you are happy with, I will show you how to easily transfer it to Lino. We use cream colour lino that makes it easy to see your and carve your design.  IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO BRING SOME PICTURES THAT INSPIRE YOU, FROM MAGAZINES, PHOTOS, ETC.  IF YOU WANT TO USE A DRAWING YOU'VE DONE ETC YOU NEED TO GET A PRINT OUT OF IT AT A6 SIZE TO BRING ALONG. SECOND CLASS - MAY 23.  10-12 MIDDAY You will learn about the carving tools and how to make a variety of marks and then you will carve your design.   THIRD CLASS MAY 30.  10 - 12.30 PM This is a longer session dedicated to printing your carved Lino.  You will learn how to ink up with a roller, hand burnish (transfer image from lino to paper).  If there is the time we will add a touch of colour with other media to enhance your prints.  Please bring a box or folders to carry your A5 prints home. ALL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT ARE INCLUDED IN THE PRICE.  THERE WILL BE EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO DESIGN AND CUT YOUR LINO.  PENCILS, PAPERS, SHAPES TO DRAW AROUND, LINOCUT TOOLS, SAFETY MATS AND BENCH HOOKS, INKS, INK ROLLERS AND INKING SURFACES, PAPER.   Plus of course sketch/notebooks if you wish to purchase one or more on the day (they make a lovely gift!). Refreshments; Teas (including herbal) and coffee. And cows milk alternative.  Please email about any allergies. THE VENUE Each session is held in the lovely light filled room that is called the small hall which is fully accessible on the ground floor in the characterful building that is Sharrow Old Junior School. It is a comfortable room with large windows so plenty of natural light.  There is a fully accessible toilet opposite our room and more just down the corridor.  The entrance is via an electric door through into reception area then turn left and you've arrived, it's the first room on the left hand side.
