Take this beautiful walk through Glen Nevis and share breathtaking mountain scenery with competitors of the Ben Nevis Ultra.
This non-stenuous guided walk is a brilliant chance to observe a spectacular location used for the filming of the Harry Potter films, while watching the race competitors coming into checkpoints 3 and later 7.
There will be an opportunity to meet your guide and the other group members at the Event Village after the race start (where we will gather briefly at 08:15am) but the guided walk itself will start at 09:00 from the Steall Falls Car Park Glen Nevis. The group will need to organise their own transport to Glen Nevis (although Covid-permitting your guides will facilitate lift-sharing to limit cars parking in Glen Nevis).
This guided walk is specifically designed for the friends and family of the competitors who would like to experience the Scottish mountains without climbing up high, and who would prefer to do so as part of a group. Suitable for children, but in the company of their parents only (no children under 6 years).
For all our guided walks please come prepared for any weather, and a day of mountain walking. This means you will need the following essentials:
A packed lunch and plenty of snacks
Water bottle (and perhaps a thermos flask if it is cold)
Waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers
Warm mid-layer AND a spare warm jacket (it quickly gets cold when you stop to spectate)
Suitable footwear such as walking boots
Our guides will carry emergency equipment for the group such as a first aid kit and group shelter.
Please note, when you meet your guide, there will always be group discussion and decision about the itinerary based on the weather and groups ability. It is possible that the group will decide on a different plan. If transport is required, the group will need to organise this with their personal vehicles.
This out-and-back hike is approximately 8km with 250m ascent total. Exact start and finish times TBC upon meeting your guide at the Skyline Scotland event village, Kinlochleven.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee that the walk timings will match the passing of a specific competitor at checkpoints 3 or 7. However, you will certainly experience the atmosphere and tension of the event, and be able to watch the start of the race, as well as the finish for many of the majority of competitors.
