Scottish Anarcho Folk Festival 2020

***SECOND & FINAL BATCH OF TICKETS RELEASED 5PM 28.02*** The Scottish Anarcho Folk Festival 2020 will take place over the weekend of 5-7th June 2020! 2016 / 2017 was such a great success, we are doing it all again! There will be nothing for sale except band merchandise. What there will be is a safe space to be, to camp, to talk, to party, to cook, to share, dance, to sing and to create. There will be a programme of performances, discussions and gigs, but we cannot emphasise enough that this is a DIY event, so if you have ideas of something that could or should happen, please propose it. We need people to get involved and make the event happen. We are also planning to do more communal (vegan) food this year (for a donation). More info about this will follow. We are actively working to create a space for tolerance and respect for all. Racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc. behaviour will be challenged and not tolerated. The intention is to create an open-minded space where we meet as equals and leave as friends. The venue is a lovely smallholding a few miles out of Elgin, Moray with plenty of room for camping, caravans and mobile homes. There is drinking water, toilets and a communal kitchen. There will be a large central fire (with the possibility of smaller fires around the site). Location will be emailed out to those who order tickets. This is a small not-for-profit festival, with room for about 200 folk in terms of infrastructure, toilets, etc. It is free for kids (under 16s who come with adults), and we will make every effort not to exclude anyone on the basis of cost. If cost is a problem but you would like to come, please get in touch with a private message (see below). Money: The ticket money will pay for infrastructure costs and expenses for musicians and workshop presenters/facilitators. There is no background funding for a DIY event such as this, and we do need to guarantee a certain amount of ‘income’ to cover the costs of putting it on. No one is making a fat profit from the event, and we are grateful to those who are putting in the hours and the hard yards to make the event possible. We do of course welcome input, ideas, practical help and volunteers before, during and after the festival. Wheelchair and disabled access: There will be a wheelchair-accessible portaloo toilet on site. The site is accessible to those with mobility difficulties, but it can be difficult especially if it is wet and muddy. We will make every effort to facilitate access for everyone. To be honest, it is not ideal, but it is possible. If you have issues, concerns or other ideas, please get in touch; likewise if you have any other special needs. Child-friendly: The site is absolutely safe and child-friendly (of course, accidents can happen), consisting of fields, woodland, bog, a burn (stream), wild animals and plenty of room to play, explore and luxuriate. We have not planned any specific kids’ activities, but the possibility is there if you want to. Again, let us know what you are thinking. Public Transport: The site is a few miles from Elgin train and bus stations. As last time, we are planning to do a ‘pick-up’ service (Friday till about 9pm and some of Saturday), but could do with advance notice from you so we can do it as efficiently as possible. Of course, festival goers are encouraged to share transport where possible. There is plenty of room to bring vehicles on to the site. Wellies and midges: Come prepared! This is the North of Scotland, even if it is mid-June, so it could be wet and cold. And midgy! Food and drink: You will need to bring your own food and drink for the weekend. We are planning to extend our set-up this year to include some communal (vegan) cooking, eating and sharing. More info will follow (and we need volunteers to plan, coordinate and cook – get in touch with James Bar Bowen.) There is a public cooking space with a gas hob and pans and utensils. You are welcome to cook and share, but no food will be sold. We have a no dogs policy, particularly because the site is home to a large wildlife population (including protected species). There, please make your usual arrangements (dog sitters, etc.) Guide dogs can be accommodated. The full line-up of events, gigs and workshops will be finalised over the coming months.
