The world’s greatest untapped market begins to open up.

While Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine has used cannabis for millennia, cultural conservatism, UN drug treaties, and pressure from Western governments has kept marijuana use low for decades.

Only 2% of the Asian population use it regularly, compared with 8% in the Americas and 7% in Europe. Today, attitudes are changing, and liberalisation is opening up the world’s largest marketplace.

Opportunities abound for ventures with the ability to localise product lines, capture the public’s imagination and work with regulators to ensure compliance. Capital raises have only just begun.

China now permits CBD topicals, opening up a market of 1.4 billion people

Thailand, South Korea and Malaysia have licensed medial cannabis.

India legalised marijuana cultivation for research and medicine in 2018.

Japan’s CBD market is growing 100% per annum since legalisation in 2016.

The Russian Health Ministry has begun importing cannabis for scientific study.
