An annual event of the capital, held in remembrance of the great
maestro and ex-Doyen of Dilli Gharana - Ustad Chand Khan – the
festival features a range of Hindustani classical performances, both
vocal and instrumental, by maestros who deliver the art-form in its
purest possible form unto the Indian audiences.
Alongside, young talents are also included in the programme, as they
share the stage with maestros and convey through their music, modern
musical thoughts and ideas. Furthermore, an Ustad Chand Khan Lifetime
Achievement Award is also presented to veteran Indian classical
artists. This year’s award will be presented to Padma Bhushan Pandit
Vishwa Mohan Bhatt.
The concept for this year’s festival is ‘Guru-Shishya Paramara’
and is dedicated to Pandit Kunwar Shyam. The venture, initiated by the
Sursagar Society of Delhi Gharana, is supported primarily by the
Ministry of Culture, GOI. The aim of the festival is to achieve
acknowledgment and appreciation from our fellow Indians, not just the
art scholars, but also the audiences, especially the youth, who have
not been introduced and exposed to the world of classical music.
