Choe Khor Sum Ling is pleased to present “Buddhism in a Nutshell”, an FPMT (Foundation for the Preservation of Mahayana Tradition) introduction to Buddhism course beginning on 8 July 2018. This is an introductory course that provides a general overview of basic Buddhist principles and concepts for complete beginners. Some of the topics to be covered include:
1. Life story of Shakyamuni Buddha – similarities of Buddha’s life to ours and how Buddha answered the “Meaning of life” questions that we all have.
2. The Four Noble Truths – first teachings given by the Buddha.
3. Introduction to basic meditation techniques – including the seven-point meditation sitting posture, meditation on the counting the breath and bare attention meditation.
4. Overview of the Buddhist path and how to practise it in a systematic way etc.
The course consists of four sessions of 2.5 hours each over a period of two months so that students can absorb and practise what has been covered in a leisurely manner. All are welcome! The course will be conducted by Venerable Gyalten Rabten.
Born and raised in Singapore, Venerable Rabten is one of our senior Teachers at CKSL from the Sera Jey Monastery in Bylakuppe (Karnataka).
