Festa Del Cristo degli Abissi

 Festa Del Cristo is celebrated every year in July in memory of those who perished at sea and a beautiful and heartfelt ceremony is held in the bay of San Fruttuoso. The religious event begins with a torchlight procession which starts at the Abbey and goes all the way to the beach, where the torches are handed over to divers who, swimming on the surface, reach the spot where there is a statue of Christ 20 meters below water level. After having laid a crown of laurel at the base of the statue, the procession of divers returns to the beach where Mass is celebrated.
