Every year, Orchard Road is transformed into a land of wonder known as
"Christmas on a Great Street", with Christmas lights, decorations and
entertainment to celebrate this special holiday. The festival runs
between November and January each year, with attractions free to view.
So bring your family down to this Christmas wonderland during your
visit to Singapore! Christmas on a Great Street - 2019/2020 Dates,
Orchard Road Singapore Christmas on a Great Street covers around 3kms
of Orchard Road, starting at Tanglin Mall and travelling right up to
Istana Park. The best time to visit Orchard Road during this time is
at night when you'll be treated to spectacular lighting shows and
heaps of interactive Christmas themed displays. There will also be
roving performers and pop-up stores selling food and drink and other
Christmas goods. The festival will kick off on the 16th November 2019
at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, where the roads are closed, and
thousands of people converge on Orchard Road to witness the street lit
up for the very first time of the year. Buildings will compete for the
best decorations, so choose your favourite as they do their best win
your vote! Christmas music will be playing all along Orchard Road, and
there will be a fun atmosphere with carnival games and live music and
performances from local artists. Step into the three Christmas
villages (located at *SCAPE, Grange Road Car Park and Shaw House Urban
Plaza) filled with thrilling rides, tasty delights and a line-up of
live acts! Singapore’s famous shopping district will be split into
three different zones: Tanglin, Orchard and Somerset, with each
featuring gift boxes, snowflakes or this year’s icon – little
Santas. Accompanying them along the street will be more than 30 glass
shards dressed up to look like giant-sized festive greeting cards. The
lamp-post decorations that line the road between Tanglin Mall and
Plaza Singapura will also feature little Santas hanging from the
arches. Other great photo spots include a giant Santa riding on his
reindeer, a 4m-tall tunnel made up of large Christmas icons, and a
station where you can help to pull Santa’s reindeer. New to this
year are two pop-ups locations: The first is "Nom Nom Nom", where you
can dig into street food from 14 food truck vendors that will be
shuttling between the Christmas villages located at *SCAPE and the
Shaw House Urban Plaza. The second pop-up is "Mini TOYBOX", which will
feature Hasbro toys, My Little Pony makeovers and a NERF obstacle
course. There will be more than 30 family-friendly rides and game
booths at *SCAPE and the Shaw House Urban Plaza, with the more
thrilling rides found at Grange Road Car Park. Ride credits can be
pre-bought on the event's website or at ticketing counters at the
three locations. Adding to the festive cheer are nightly performances
at *SCAPE by singers such as Estelle Fly, Shye and Charlene Su;
leading up to the Christmas Eve Countdown Concert. Multimedia
performances, interactive activities and Christmas carolling will
greet shoppers along the pedestrian walkway from ION Orchard to Wisma
Atria from Dec 16 to 23. You can get to Orchard Road by taking the MRT
on the north/south, north/east or central line and alighting at Dhoby
Ghaut, Somerset or Orchard stations.
