TRAINING._WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID (MHFA)?
Mental health first aid is the help given to someone developing a
mental health issue, such as depression, anxiety, or substance misuse
or who is in a mental health crisis, like panic attacks, self-injury,
aggressive behaviour.
Mental health first aid is given until appropriate professional
treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
Our 2-DAY MHFA workshop teaches you how to assist someone who is
developing a mental illness or is in a mental health crisis. During
this workshop you will learn the ALGEE five steps to assisting:
Approach, assess and assist any crisis
Listen without judging
Give support and information
Encourage relevant professional
Encourage other supports
_Please note_, this course is not a therapy or support group. It is an
education workshop where you will learn how to give mental health
first aid to those in need.
WHO CAN ATTEND A MHFA COURSE?
This course is provided_ FREE OF CHARGE TO ANY ADULT 18+ LIVING WITHIN
THE COUNTIES MANUKAU DHB DISTRICT_. If you don't live within the
Counties Manukau DHB district and would like to attend please contact

Please note - you must attend both days to receive your certificate of
completion.
