From Andy Warhol’s iconic appropriation of the Campbell’s soup
can, now worth over a million pounds, to Kanye West’s 'My Beautiful
Dark Twisted Fantasy' album cover featuring a painting by American
artist George Condo, this 1h class will explore how art, once a
reflection of the world around it, has now infiltrated and become a
part of it. We will start by looking at art produced during the 1960s
that laid the groundwork for contemporary art. No longer perceived as
something reserved for quiet museums, art has since broken the
boundaries that once enclosed it. Artists have broadened their scope
using innovative mediums like light installation and by creating huge
in-situ works with the aim of being accessible for all; others through
successful collaborations have become recognisable brands in their own
right like Takashi Murakami who created a line for Louis Vuitton. The
particular artists we will focus on are Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel
Basquiat, James Turrell, George Condo and Takashi Murakami, but others
will also be mentioned.ARE YOU CURIOUS...
