Songs and stories of the Sebilj fountain continue to roam the world
and make their way to Melbourne's historic theatre venue
FORTYFIVEDOWNSTAIRS A night to enjoy the repertoire that celebrates
the ancient Balkan cities where a multitude of cultures coexisted and
thrived in cosmopolitan artistic environments. Sevdah songs speak of
the universal themes of love, grief, of various societal changes or
simply the Herzeg-Bosnian landscape.... The Sephardic Jewish Romances,
secular songs taught through the maternal line of the family, share
stories of feisty, disobedient daughters, enchanting temptresses or
wise grandmothers...they tell of the unique Sephardic Jewish life in
the cities such as Sarajevo, Mostar, Banja Luka, Bijeljina and others.
