Tragedy 20th Annual Living History Tour at the Nashville City Cemetery
If Tombstones Could Talk: Triumph and Tragedy Ever wondered what you
would put on your tombstone? Would it capture the story of your life?
Join us at the Nashville City Cemetery as our residents come alive to
tell their stories of Triumph and Tragedy at our annual Living History
Tour on Saturday, October 12th. The afternoon tour will run from
2pm to 4pm, and back by popular demand, the night tour will run from
6pm to 8pm. Plan to spend an hour walking through the Cemetery to hear
everyone. This year’s tour will feature residents from our brand
new 28 stop free tour app for Apple and Android devices, including,
William Carroll – Hero of the Battle of New Orleans and
Tennessee’s longest serving Governor Alfred Hume – Father of
Nashville’s Public School System Simon the Jockey – African
American jockey Wilkins Tannehill – Mayor of Nashville, Newspaper
Editor, and Grand Master Mason Mabel Lewis Imes – Founding Fisk
Jubilee Singer Felix Grundy – United States Attorney General,
Congressman, and Senator James and Charlotte Robertson – Founding
Pioneers of Middle Tennessee and others… Free Parking and shuttle
service will be provided at the old Greer Stadium Parking lot
by Fort Negley. Shuttle service will begin at 1:30 pm and end at 9
pm. Gates at the City Cemetery will open at 2 PM for the afternoon
tour and at 6 PM for the evening tour. The tour and the new free
tour app are hosted by the Nashville City Cemetery Association, a
non-profit whose mission is to protect, preserve, restore, and educate
the public about Nashville’s premier outdoor history museum, the
Nashville City Cemetery. More information may be found at

on Eventbrite for speedy will-call entry to the tour, or at the gates
