While Fellowship Square Historic Mesa residents are staying home and
staying safe as much as possible per Governor Duceys orders to limit
the spread of COVID-19, the restrictions have left many without
visitors or a social outlet. To help connect these seniors with the
community and seek companionship beyond the Fellowship Square Historic
Mesa campus, a new Pen Pal and Phone Pal Program encourages
friendships with local residents through letters and conversations.
Fellowship Square has worked with volunteers from groups including
Hiway Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Mill Ave Pre School, Love
of Christ Lutheran Church, and Lexington Group through this program
and now invites residents children, teens and adults alike from around
the community to join in the fun. Initial letters can be sent to 22
West 9thPlace, Mesa, Arizona 85201. Upon receipt, the Life Enrichment
staff will screen the letters and help residents match up with a Pen
Pal. Phone Pals can connect with assisted living residents through
scheduled calls, which will take place in the activity room. All teen
and adult pen pals will be informed of HIPPA regulations regarding not
sharing personal information and must go through a volunteer
application with amendments for a virtual position. Younger children
must have guardian (such as a teacher or parent) that has gone through
the volunteer process. For more, visit:
