“When I paint, I am trying to tell the truth about my subject. Every time I put brush to canvas, I am trying to find what is essential about that scene and to give it life on the canvas. Invariably, a significant part of this goal is achieved by simply rendering an authentic light. Whether direct sunlight or indirect ambient light, I aim to capture the particular effect that the light is having on my subject on that day and at that time everything else in my painting flows from this.” – Mark Boedges.
