EXPERIENCING TRANSCENDENCEKATHRYN KUISLE, PHD SAT, APR 29, 2017 GRACE ST PAUL’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 2331 E ADAMS ST (IN THE BLOOM ROOM) LECTURE: The Annunciation: TRANSCENDENCE EXPRESSED THROUGH ART FROM THE RENAISSANCE 10:00am-12:00pm MEMBERS: $15, NON-MEMBERS: $20 Dr. Kuisle will explore the symbolism and depth of meaning in the story of the Annunciation, in which the angel Gabriel appears to Mary the Virgin and gives her a startling message. The presenter will show paintings by a variety of artists from the Renaissance to demonstrate the uniqueness of each artist’s attempt to express “TRANSCENDENCE” in his portrayal of the moment of “the annunciation.” Carl Jung spoke of this as symbolizing an experience “that grips us or falls upon us as from above,” an experience that is possible in our own psychological work. We will also reflect on Jung’s concept of the transcendent function. KATHRYN KUISLE, PHD, is a Jungian analyst with a private practice in Colorado Springs and Denver. She is a graduate of the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich and holds a PhD in analytical psychology from Union Institute and University in Cincinnati. Dr. Kuisle is on the Board of the C. G. Jung Institute of Colorado and teaches there and at Regis University in Denver. She facilitates on-going dream and fairy tale groups. Her website is www.kkuisle.com [http://www.kkuisle.com].
