In these times of nonstop bad news, we could all use a "uniquely
musical, big-hearted gem about a father-daughter bond" starring Nick
Offerman (aka Ron Swanson from 'PARKS & REC'), right? Read on! In the
Brooklyn neighborhood of Red Hook, single dad and record store owner
Frank (Offerman) is preparing to send his hard-working daughter Sam
(Kiersey Clemons) off to college, while being forced to close his
shop. Hoping to stay connected through their shared musical passions,
Frank urges Sam to turn their weekly "jam sesh" into a father-daughter
live act. When their first song becomes an Internet breakout, it
complicates Frank's attempts to let go of his dreams of stardom and
allow his daughter to find her own path in life. Also stars Ted Danson
(as a bartender!?), Blythe Danner, and Toni Collette. Directed by
Brett Haley (last year's indie hit 'THE HERO'). "Haley's films are
things we can reach toward - there's an intimacy and candor about them
that feels welcoming." - TIME "A film that refuses to go sappy on us
thanks to the tough core of intelligence and wit that Nick Offerman
brings to the party." - Rolling Stone "Haley's look at the lighter,
and lightly darker, side of family life between a father and his
daughter is a super(b) counterpoint to this summer's blockbusters." -
Film International "All of it feels deeply honest, which, in this time
of endless amounts of ridiculous onscreen nonreality, is highly
refreshing." - Epoch Times "A musically infused cinematic gem that
will stand as one of the summer's under-the-radar greats." - Tucson
Weekly "A perfect antidote to superhero movies." - Boston Herald "A
sparkling gem with an indie-rock soul. Offerman turns in his best
big-screen performance yet." - Newsday ***If you have a free movie
