Act 1 premieres selections from two upcoming story ballets. P1N0CCH10, a retelling of Carlo Collodi's classic tale of Pinocchio, explores humanity, artificial intelligence, and our relationship with the natural world. Carmilla, an adaptation of Sheridan Le Fanu's groundbreaking sapphic vampire novella, stages a mysterious masquerade ball. Act Two features the return of Viva La Vida, the original story of Lucio and Lupita in a joyful folklórico-infused tale about transcending loss and the resilience of love, inspired by Día de los Muertos. In this “celebration of life, loved ones and culture,” writes Jocelyn Tong of the Daily Californian, “mythic creatures from the land of the dead … [lead to] twirled scarves and snapped-open fans …in a story of homecoming.” Throughout all three stories, the wisdom of women across time and cultures is amplified.
