BERKELEY Isshin-ryu welcomes adult students of all ages, body types,
and levels of (in)experience. CLASSES AT OUR DOJO ARE ALWAYS SMALL,
allowing for detailed and personalized instruction for each student.
Although workouts are rigorous and we take our practice seriously, we
also emphasize safety, fun, and learning.Classes usually begin with
stretching and light calisthenics; the rest of class usually involves
some combination of practicing basic techniques, combinations, and
kata (longer choreographed routines of martial techniques), depending
on the levels & interests of those present.
We meet every Monday and Wednesday from 7:30-9:00 pm and are happy to
host beginners or visitors at any class. (If a class falls on or
adjacent to a national holiday, contact us to make sure we will be
meeting.) Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can easily move
around in. The Sawtooth Building has restrooms and faucets/sinks, but
no water fountains, so you might want to bring a water bottle.
Our workout spaces are located in the Sawtooth Building at[masked]th
St. in Berkeley, just south of Dwight Way. Parking is available on the
street.
On Mondays, we meet in Spring/Fall Studio. To get to Spring/Fall
Studio, go through the second double doors you encounter as you head
south from Dwight Way. Head to the back of the entryway and
Spring/Fall is on your left.
On Wednesdays, we meet in Wildcat Studio. To get to Wildcat Studio, go
through the first double doors you encounter as you head south from
Dwight Way. Head to the back of the entryway and Wildcat Studio is on
your right.
