BACH: Fugue arrangements SHOSTAKOVICH: String Quartet No. 14 The
reliably "passionate, uninhibited and spellbinding" (The Independent,
London) performances of the Brentano Quartet have secured its position
in the pantheon of the world's great quartets. Here, the ensemble
performs a program that showcases roiling contemporary work alongside
Baroque repertoire that predates the string quartet as a medium.
Shostakovich's penultimate quartet is a moody feature for cello
composed in 1973, and a collection of fugue arrangements showcases the
quartet's strength in interpretations of Bach.
