NIELSEN: Bohemian-Danish Folk Tune (arr. Danish String Quartet)
SCHNITTKE: String Quartet No. 2 BEETHOVEN: String Quartet in E minor,
Op. 59, No. 2 The Danish String Quartet has become an international
sensation in recent years, winning over critics and audiences alike
with its "technical command and playfulness, its abundance of sound,
and ability to sing like a choir" (San Jose Mercury News). Besides
programming the well-known staples of the repertory, the quartet also
has an affinity for folk music and champions works by Scandinavian
composers, here presenting an arrangement of the great Danish composer
Carl Nielsen's bucolic Bohemian-Danish Folk Tune, offset by Alfred
Schnittke's second quartet, a striking tribute to his Russian
homeland. The program centerpiece is Beethoven's robust middle-period
E-minor Quartet.
