In a program that spans centuries, the Tallis Scholars present
repertoire familiar and refreshingly new in the first of their two
Berkeley concerts. Josquin's well-loved Missa Pange lingua and William
Byrd's ambitious Tribue, domine, are works with which the ensemble has
long been associated. Here these canonical pieces are paired with Arvo
Pärt's prayerful Tribute to Caesar from 1997, and Nico Muhly's
"alluring" (New York Times) Recordare, domine, composed for Tallis and
premiered in 2013.
