The Joffrey Ballet is celebrated for "wise casting, wickedly talented
dancers, [and] world-class choreographers" (Berkeleyside). Son of
Chamber Symphony by Stanton Welch, which premiered to rave reviews at
Jacob's Pillow, is set to John Adams's restless score, and Joffrey
co-founder Gerald Arpino's neoclassical Round of Angels is danced to
the mournful Adagietto from Mahler's Fifth Symphony. Alexander Ekman's
West Coast premiere of the rambunctious Episode 31 opens to urgent,
explosive rhythms before settling into a serene duet dance to a
reading of Christina Rossetti's poem "Color."
