WIDMANN: Idyll and Abyss (Six Schubert Reminiscences, 2009) SCHUBERT:
Drei Klavierstücke, D. 946 Sonata in A Major, D. 664 Sonata in
B-flat, D. 960 Berkeley audiences first met pianist Shai Wosner, a
"keen musical mind and deep musical soul" (NPR), at his warmly
received Schubert recital at Cal Performances' Fall Free for All
(2012). Born in Israel, Wosner later studied at the Juilliard School
with Emanuel Ax. He has been praised for making complex music speak
with thrilling clarity, and for bringing vitality and insight to his
interpretations. Wosner returns to Cal Performances with more
Schubert, including the composer's final major work for the piano, the
Sonata in B-flat major D. 960, as well as a recent work by German
composer Jörg Widmann, the Schubert homage, Idyll and Abyss.
