Cal Performances welcomes three of the world's most acclaimed
musicians for a breathtaking celebration of the music of Bach. Cellist
Yo-Yo Ma, bassist EDGAR MEYER, and mandolin player CHRIS THILE HAVE
EACH STUDIED AND PERFORMED BACH'S SOLO MUSIC SINCE CHILDHOOD, and here
the three friends—who, along with Stuart Duncan, last collaborated
on the Grammy-winning Goat Rodeo Sessions—reunite to offer fresh
perspectives on the master's trio music, re-imagined for their immense
talents and imaginative ensemble. Ma is a close collaborator of Cal
Performances, and was a creative force behind this season's world
premiere of Layla and Majnun, featuring the Mark Morris Dance Group
and the Silk Road Ensemble. MEYER HAS REDEFINED THE ROLE OF THE DOUBLE
BASS IN CONTEMPORARY MUSIC, bridging genres and audiences with his
captivating chamber and orchestra performances, and fertile
collaborations combining bluegrass and classical music. THILE, a
member of Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek, is set to succeed Garrison
Keillor as the host of A Prairie Home Companion; he has earned
critical accolades for his solo performances of Bach performed on
mandolin. Join us for an unforgetting evening! While the Gala dinner
is already sold out, limited cocktail reception tickets are still
available and can be purchased by visiting calperformances.org/gala/
This party with a purpose will directly support Cal Performances'
education and community programs that encourage all to investigate,
imagine, and connect through the live performing arts. Concert tickets
