(all materials provided); Ages 6-12 For one Sunday each month,
children's instructor, Aimee Aul will be guiding students in creating
an original work of art inspired by a great artist of the past or
present. Fee includes admission to the gallery and all materials.
March 1 - Albrecht Durer Experiment with printmaking and make your own
linocut and monoprint April 5 - Chesley Bonestall Science meets
imagination in the sci fi art of American illustrator Chesley
Bonestall. We will be making acrylic paintings inspired by real life
discoveries in outer space. May 3 - Keith Haring This 20th century
master of graffiti art shook up the art world with his dynamic,
colorful murals. We will be working with permanent markers and tempera
paint to make an original graphic art piece in Haring's signature
style. June 7 - Hsu Wei This contemporary Chinese brush painter uses
ancient traditions in a fresh new way. We will learn traditional
Chinese strokes and make a bamboo painting and landscape,
incorporating old and new ideas. Requires a $7-$10 brush each. Sept. 6
- Frida Kahlo This hugely influential Mexican painter did many
insightful self portraits. We will use chalk pastels to make our own
symbolic portraits in Frida's surrealist style. October 18 - Leonardo
da Vinci Unlock the secrets of Renaissance perspective as used by
Leonardo. We will make a colored pencil urban landscape using the
one-point perspective he pioneered centuries ago. Prepare to be
amazed! November 8 - Deborah Butterfield This American sculptor is
known for her realistic, life sized horses. We will be sculpting
slightly smaller versions with oven bake clay over wire armature.
