Gene Luen Yang and LeUyen Pham Present Their Graphic Novel "Lunar New Year Love Story"

Join us on Thursday, February 8th at 7 pm when renowned children's book and GRAPHIC NOVEL AUTHOR/illustratrators GENE LUEN YANG and LEUYEN PHAM come to read from and discuss THEIR NEW YOUNG ADULT GRAPHIC NOVEL _Lunar New Year Love Story_, a heartwarming rom-com about fate, family, forgiveness, and lion dancing! They will be joined in conversation with GRAPHIC NOVEL AUTHOR AND LOCAL TEACHER THIEN PHAM.GENE LUEN YANG writes, and sometimes draws, comic books and GRAPHIC NOVELS. He was named a National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature by the Library of Congress in 2016, and advocates for the importance of reading, especially reading diversely. His GRAPHIC NOVEL _American Born Chinese_, a National Book Award finalist and Printz Award winner, has been adapted into an original series on Disney+. His two-volume GRAPHIC NOVEL _Boxers & Saints _won the LA Times Book Prize and was a National Book Award Finalist. His nonfiction GRAPHIC NOVEL, _Dragon Hoops_, received an Eisner award and a Printz honor. His other comics work includes _Secret Coders_ (with Mike Holmes), _The Shadow Hero_ (with Sonny Liew), and _Superman Smashes the Klan and the Avatar: The Last Airbender_ series (both with Gurihiru). In 2016, he was named a MacArthur Foundation Fellow. LEUYEN PHAM has illustrated more than one hundred books for children, including the Caldecott Honor book _Bear Came Along_ by Richard T. Morris and the bestselling _Princess in Black_ series by Shannon and Dean Hale. She is the co-creator, along with Shannon Hale, of the bestselling GRAPHIC MEMOIRS _Real Friends, Best Friends_, and _Friends Forever_. Her own books include _The Bear Who Wasn't There_ and _Big Sister, Little Sister_. A graduate of the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, LeUyen lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two sons. THIEN PHAM is a GRAPHIC NOVELIST, comic artist, and educator based in Oakland, CA. He is the author and illustrator of the GRAPHIC NOVEL _Sumo_ and did the art for the middle-grade GRAPHIC NOVEL _Level Up_, written by Gene Luen Yang. He received much recognition for his latest GRAPHIC NOVEL _Family Style_.
