Abstract:
As participants in the big tent that is the Java ecosystem (and that
includes languages like Groovy, Scala, Kotlin and many others), we
often overlook the engine the underlies it all--the Java Virtual
Machine. In this talk, we will look at the JVM instruction set, its
architecture, the design considerations that went into it, its
pitfalls and how it has evolved over the years.
Bio:
Vivek Haldar has been programming for nearly two decades at all levels
of the stack (the Linux kernel, large-scale backends for search and
indexing, cluster management systems, virtual machines, Android apps,
CRMs). He has a PhD in Computer Science from UC Irvine, and is
currently a Staff Software Engineer at Google.
