The SDSU Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders
[http://autism.sdsu.edu/] is hosting a talk on learning effective
strategies to deescalate BEHAVIORS IN KIDS WITH AUTISM. Our guest,
Daniel Lowery from the Psychiatric Centers of SAN DIEGO, will help
parents identify common triggers that lead to behavioral escalation
and what to do to prevent them. We will explore the energy cycle of
behavioral escalation, how to identify each phase and how to respond
appropriately with each phase. We will cover the most effective
communication strategies for interacting with kids to prevent
behavioral escalation and reduce escalation once a child has already
in an excited state. There will be a Q&A at the end to help tackle
tricky situations.Psychiatric Centers at San Diego (PCSD)
[https://www.psychiatriccenters.com/] is a group of psychiatrists,
therapists, nurse practitioners, and behavior analysts that look to
collectively improve mental health with a diverse and collaborative
approach. PCSD is among the largest and oldest integrated private
practice behavioral health groups in the United States serving
residents of San Diego for over 50 years. The newly formed BASE
(Behavioral Autism Support Entity) Team within PCSD (2013) has added a
behavioral component to the traditional psychiatric components for
dealing with individuals primarily with autism and other related
diagnoses. PCSD’s integrated model allows for a unique service
delivery structure focusing on the patient and clinical needs above
all else.
