BORREGO SPRINGS WAS FIRST OFFICIAL INTERNATIONAL DARK SKY COMMUNITY IN
CALIFORNIA AND IS THE PERFECT LOCATION TO CAPTURE THE BEAUTY OF THE
NIGHT SKY. It is also home to 150 of sculptor Ricardo Breceda’s
supersized metal sculptures. Join Stan for the night and you will
learn ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY TECHNIQUES WHILE BEING ABLE TO CAPTURE A T-Rex,
Giant Scorpion, Serpent and Mammoth with stars and star TRAILS IN THE
BACKGROUND AFTER DARK. Stan will teach the following topics so
that you can make them your own: * The foundation for capturing
sharp stars. Proper exposure times and image balance. * Creative
compositions with the North Star. * Star trails in one exposure only.
* How to shoot consecutive exposures to stack for a single star
trail image. * The use of external lightning to enhance shadows and
highlights in a scene. * In-field editing with LightRoom Mobile. *
Post Processing techinques in optional post processing session on
January 26th from 9am-12pm.
_Things to bring and know:_
CLOTHING/FOOTWEAR: Bring sturdy hiking shoes as the terrain can be
a bit slippery as we walk and climb about. Layers of clothing
including a jacket. Temperatures during the day can be in the 70’s
– 90’s and then drop into the low 40’s – 50’s at night.
GEAR: Bring your own camera and lens. ALL CAMERAS ARE WELCOME.
Bring a wide angle lens ranging from 11mm to 35mm, Headlamp, tripod,
cable releases, interval meter, memory cards, and extra batteries.
OPTIONAL: Laptop loaded with Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop. Stan
will be teaching an optional post processing session the next morning
from 9am-12pm at a location to be determined in Borrego Springs.

Instructor Bio: Stan is a published photographer with more than 10
years of experience. A Sony ambassador, Stan continues to push his
boundaries in the creative arts. With his infectious passion for
adventure, Stan has adapted a “nature journalist” approach to his
content creating. At a moment’s notice, Stan will drop everything
to chase those awe inspiring images. He seeks to move people and
encourages students to get out there and experience what this big
beautiful world has to offer and to appreciate the time we have here
on planet Earth. Versed in a variety of photo and video techniques,
Stan works with a number of clients in making their artistic visions
become a reality. Stan has been inspiring others through educational
workshops and heart-felt presentations for years, helping to spark
that fire in others for photography and the creative arts.
