AUTHOR, EDUCATOR, FILMMAKER AND ACTIVIST JACKSON KATZ RETURNS TO
COMMON GROUND TO ENCOURAGE US TO HELP OUR SONS REDEFINE MASCULINITY.
In the 21st century, society's understanding of masculinity is
changing, redefining culture, and challenging long-held beliefs. Katz
will provide essential strategies in guiding our sons in becoming
principled, confident young men. He supports parents in encouraging
the development of balanced, fulfilling and realistic masculine
identities, which move beyond the portrayals of maleness that
predominate our media and are harmful to both genders. Katz will
discuss the role of boys and men can play amidst the #MeToo movement
and shine a much needed light on how this momentum is a positive step
forward for all.
Jackson Katz, PhD, has long been a major figure and thought leader in
the growing global movement of men working to promote gender equality
and prevent gender violence. Katz has been prominently featured in the
films Wrestling With Manhood, Miss Representation and The Mask You
Live In. He is co-founder of the multiracial, mixed-gender Mentors in
Violence Prevention (MVP) program and an early architect of the
“upstander” approach to prevention. He is the creator of the
award-winning Tough Guise video series and author of The Macho
Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help. His TEDx
talk: “Violence against Women – It’s a Men’s Issue,” has
been viewed more than four million times. An acclaimed public speaker,
Katz has delivered thousands of lectures and trainings around the
world.
