Lets go kayaking! Partially in homage to a former LA hiking leader, Jose, who is no longer with us who used to organize a regular kayaking event, I am organizing my first kayaking outing with the group.
If you've never been kayaking . . . no worries. This will be an easy place to learn the basics. I've you've been many times . . . great! You can pair up with someone who hasn't done much.
Newport Bay is beautiful and interesting. I've kayaked here on multiple occasions. We'll spend about over an hour paddling through the Upper Newport Bay ecological reserve which has one of the larger intact salt marshes in SoCal with a lot of bird life, then go south of the bridge and check out some of the posh homes and docks in the harbor.
Double kayaks are $20/hr. Two people in a double kayak for two hours is wait for it . . . still $20. So, bring a $20 bill and everything will go very smoothly!
Bring:
Water
Snacks
Hat/sunscreen (make sure you bring sunscreen - your legs will thank you!)
swimsuit/trunks/any pants you don't mind getting wet.
Flip flops/water shoes, etc.
Maybe binoculars if you are into bird/wildlife watching
$20 bill
They will fit you for a life preserver, etc.
