In collaboration with the Rangeland Foundation, the UC BERKELEY Wolf
Project will be hosting a special SCREENING ON OCTOBER 19TH OF THE
FILM In the Company of Wolves: An American Journey
[https://www.inthecompanyofwolvesfilm.com/] . This event is free and
open to the public. Created by Susan Kucera and Rangeland
Productions, the film is narrated by Academy Award winner Jeff
Bridges. The film was screened earlier this summer at the Santa Monica
Film Center with a Q&A panel featuring Jim and Mary Rickert of
Siskiyou County's Prather Ranch. The film explores the complex
relationship between people and the natural world, and the ways our
interactions with wolves and other wild and domesticated animals have
shaped our ideas, our folklore, and our sense of nationhood. In doing
so, it reveals how these relationships have influenced the course of
American history and continue to shape how we understand the landscape
we share.
Come by before the screening to view a pop-up photography exhibit
Wolves of California by conservation storyteller Malia Byrtus. The
exhibit documents the realities of wolf recolonization in California
through the work of the UC Berkeley California Wolf Project in
partnership with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife,
including never-before-seen DSLR camera trap photographs of the
Whaleback pack. With photos taken from the field, agricultural working
lands, and the lab, together they offer multiple views of a species
returning to California—and of the science, people, and decisions
shaping what happens next.
