For the maestros among US! PLEASE NOTE: Start time for this event is
now a HALF-HOUR earlier. Location may change at least once per month
and can no longer be held at No Ho High. We have two Plan B venues for
now, one for the first two weeks of the month, one for the last two.
(The 9 a.m. group offering has been deleted for now, but could be
revived at a later date.)This is a weekly Saturday morning meetup for
up to five players (including myself) who would like to up-level their
games through contemplating basic tips from the classic game while
participating in skill enhancing drills. The average NTRP rating
system ranking for attendees in these meetups is about 4.0.
The Saturday meetups which are for now just two group offerings will
use the two alternate venues during this period of reconstruction at
our preferred location. You will need to contact me directly at least
24 hours ahead (highly recommended) to confirm the current weekend s
venue.) I expect these changes to spice things up a bit.
FYI, I decided to decline the option to hand my book over to the
TENNIS HALL OF FAME BECAUSE IN THE FINE PRINT THEY INFORMED ME THAT I
WOULD NO LONGER OWN THE RIGHTS TO IT. However, the much postponed
publication of The History of USA TENNIS INSTRUCTION IN WHICH MY WORK
RECEIVES MENTION EARLY AND WITHIN THE CHAPTERS ON UNACKNOWLEDGED
GRASSROOTS COACHES IS STILL PENDING. My work is included as the first
such effort by someone of my description, aka black or African
American writer/TENNIS PRO, but also because I dared to reaffirm
obvious truths about our beloved sport which had been denied or were
in process of being buried as I wrote. The new release date of the
History is April 2020, but excerpts are here:

Please plan ahead to arrive in time as this is a 90 minute meetup. I m
always early.
Minimum 24 hour notice is recommended if you are TRULY interested.
Skill level is usually 4.0 plus or minus half a point!
Here is a little more information on my background. I have been
coaching tennis for well over two decades. When the tennis powers that
be decided to turn our graceful, exciting sport into a boring baseline
slug fest, tossing out the classic backhand with the bathwater, I
resisted and have trained countless players in the traditional
fundamentals of tennis which lead to effortless all-court coverage,
accuracy, variety, finesse and power... Side benefits for those who
follow my guidance are greatly decreased incidence of tennis related
injuries. I am very involved in most of the workout groups, thus in
fact I am a player-coach . (Grace of God, I have never experienced
more than an occasional minor strain that clears up within minutes to
hours usually, but always fewer than 48 hours.)
You can check the >MORE >Message Board for a couple of threads on
things like tendonitis plus an excellent find on the importance of
hydration and good body chemistry called Be Healthy Now .
One of the things that I intend for you to achieve by means of these
meetups is flexibility, the understanding an error can be like a blip
on a screen that need not become the defining statement on your
abilities. Rather, as a former mentor of mine used to say, "let it
roll off you like water off a duck s back." There are countless means
of bringing your attention back to the current moment, to the next
ball that is already upon you. We make multiple errors when we stay
stuck with the shot that is over, even a second ago. My background in
Inner Tennis informs this aspect of our events. Tim Galwey s
definition of Tennis for higher consciousness is my personal path.
Anyone that attends my groups with an open mind, ready to possibly
look at their game from a slightly different perspective is usually
pleasantly surprised. The final half hour of any group comprises
doubles play or other competition.
