Dorothy Toy Turns 100!
Longtime Bay Area sportscaster and reporter Rick Quan is screening his
award-winning documentary film about the incredible Asian-American
dancer Dorothy Toy. Dorothy Toy, one of the greatest dancers of the
20th century, was half of the pioneering Asian-American dance couple
Toy and Wing. Dorothy is turning 100 years old and is a living dance
legend!
She began as a child after a vaudeville theater manager noticed her
dancing in front of her parent’s restaurant. During the 1930s, 40s
and 50s, she teamed up with Paul Wing. The dance team of Toy and Wing
would eventually become the most famous Asian-American dance duo in
this country’s history, billed as the “Chinese Ginger Rogers and
Fred Astaire.”
Come out and enjoy Dorothy’s life story along with a great
vaudeville and burlesque show, and an after-show exhibit of
Dorothy’s photos and memorabilia. Let’s celebrate with Dorothy!
