Bring a book, bring a friend, and join us for an evening of reading!
At Silent Book Club, there's no assigned reading. All readers (print
and electronic) plus all ages are welcome. We'll kick off introvert
happy hour at 7pm with some light chatter and informal book
recommendations before settling in to read quietly, but if you'd
rather just pull up a chair and read, by all means do so. No one will
be shushed or shamed. The bar will be open for happy hour. Seats for
up to 30 people have been reserved in the Oscar Wilde room. This is
the room that you first walk into when you enter the bar. The book
club is scheduled to meet the first Tuesday evening of each month
7pm-9pm. Schedule at Slainte Pub (131 Broadway, Oakland):
7:00pm-7:30pm - People arrive, order drinks/food, share what they're
reading 7:30pm-8:30pm - Quiet reading hour 8:30pm-9:00pm - Optional
socializing, or just keep reading Not a drinker? The Temescal Library
is hosting its own Silent Book Club on the third Saturday mornings of
each month 10:30am-12:30pm. They will have free coffee, pastries and
can accommodate up to 80 people. Schedule at Temescal Library (5205
Telegraph Ave, Oakland): 10:30am-11:00am - People arrive, grab coffee
and pastries, share what they're reading 11:00am-12:00pm - Quiet
reading hour 12:00pm-12:30pm - Optional socializing, or just keep
reading PLEASE NOTE : There is no reserved seating, this free event is
first-come, first served. An RSVP does not guarantee you a spot but we
will do our best to accommodate as many readers as possible. This
policy is in place because not everyone who RSVPs attends. Happy
